Israel bans UN agency as communists call for peace

Palestinian and Lebanese guerrillas step up the fight while the imperialists launch another diplomatic charade in a feeble attempt to divert attention from America’s key role in Israel’s genocidal war against the Arabs. Israel continues its indiscriminate bombing of Beirut and other parts of Lebanon. An Israeli was killed and dozens more injured when a resistance fighter drove a lorry into a bus stop near an Israeli mil- itary base north of Tel Aviv. And the UN Security Council has expressed “grave concern” over Israel’s ban on UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency), warning against the dismantling of the aid agency

The GP Crisis

The British Medical Association (BMA), one of Britain’s grandest trade unions, has drawn attention to the fact that at a time of growing waiting lists in the NHS that there is also what Mark Steggles, a GP in the Buckinghamshire village of Burnham and BMA committee chair, calls an “absurd GP unemployment crisis, with thousands of GPs struggling to find work in NHS general practice” across England.

The British role

Years ago the old guard took umbrage when a former American foreign minister aptly noted that “Great Britain has lost an empire and has not yet found a role”. The British ruling class thought they had found a new ‘role’ in the European Common Market while acting as the trans-Atlantic ‘bridge’ to play off the Americans and Europeans to their advantage. But it didn’t work out that way.
